Ramadan: Kitchen Art Brasserie restaurant, Empire Hotel

Sample traditional flavours from 13 states at Empire Hotel’s Kitchen Art Brasserie restaurant this Ramadan.
A buffet dinner themed Seenak Citarasa Malaysia, which features over 60 dishes, will be available from now till July 29 at the restaurant located at level 2, from 7pm to 10.30pm.
Empire Hotel Subang signature dishes include Ayam Golek Percik, Sup Gear Box Ala Utara, Kambing Salai Lemak Pisang Muda, Rendang Itik Sambal Hijau and Asam Pedas Ikan Sembilang Kuala Selangor.
Traditional dishes from the 13 states include sup gear box (beef shank broth with spices) from Utara Kedah, Briyani Ayam dengan kismis (braised chicken with golden raisin) from Johor, Daging Masak Lemak dengan nangka muda (beef cooked in turmeric gravy with young jackfruit) from Negeri Sembilan, Terong Goreng Berlada dengan ikan bilis (fried eggplant with chilli and anchovies) from Selangor, Ikan Masak Asam Pedas Bunga Kantan (braised fish in tamarind gravy with ginger flower) from Melaka, Rendang Tok from Perak, Gulai Kawah Terengganu dengan kentang (beef curry with potato) from Terengganu, Ikan Patin Masak Lemak Tempoyak (fish cooked with spicy durian gravy) from Pahang, Ayam Bakar Berempah (roasted chicken with roasted malay spices) from Kelantan, Briyani Kambing (mutton cooked in local spices) from Pulau Pinang, Hinava Roe Fish from Sabah, Braised Chicken in Bamboo from Sarawak and Bubur Gandum from Perlis.
In line with the Seenak Citarasa Malaysia theme, local favourites such as Rojak and Cendol will also be served as part of the buffet.
The d├ęcor will also feature malay traditional styled props in line with the theme.
Empire Hotel Subang group general manager Ho Ricky said there will be 13 states of Malaysia flags set-up at the buffet spread to let diners know where the dishes originated from or where it is popular.
“It will be almost like a complete taste of Malaysian cuisine where you get to sample a specialty from each of the 13 states in one dinner.
“We want to give our clients a complete traditional Malay cuisine dining experience that captures the best of 13 states, presented by our talented Chef Syed Alsagoff and his team,” he said.
Executive chef Syed Zainuddin Alsagoff hopes to highlight the heritage of the 13 states while giving a twist to traditional recipes.
“I created a fusion of recipes from different states.
“One example is the Ayam Golek Percik, the Kelantan sauce is whitish or brownish while the Perak one is reddish; I created a fusion of both recipes and the result is a pinkish gravy,” he said.
For kids, he recommends the Ayam Masak Ros from Johor and Laksam from Kelantan as it is not too spicy.
Homemade cookies can also be bought from the restaurant.
Diners will be entertained by a Ghazal band performing nightly.
Diners will also stand a chance to win a Hermes watch worth about RM12k by taking part in a contest organised during the period.
The Seenak Citarasa Malaysia buffet dinner is priced at RM108++ for adults and RM88++ for children and senior citizens.

Ramadan 2014: The Saujana Hotel Kuala Lumpur


Break fast under the stars at The Saujana Hotel Kuala Lumpur this Ramadan with a view of the hotel’s lake and pool.
Traditional Ghazal musicians will serenade guests from a custom-made stage over the pool specially built for this occasion.
There will be five rotating menus featuring a smorgasbord of over 140 traditional and regional Malaysian specialties, showcases a melting pot of both local and international flavours.
Whet your appetite on a selection of over 30 types of ulam, kerabu, soups and starter items which include “Kerabu Mangga Muda”, “Kerabu Tempeh”, “Traditional Gado Gado with Rich Peanut Gravy”, “Acar Rampai”, “Lemang Pulut Ketupat with Serunding Ayam or Daging”, “Soup Tulang Gear Box”, and “Bubur Lambuk”.
Then tantalise your taste buds with a medley of mouthwatering choice of mains such as “Kambing Masak Gulai Kawah”, “Ketam Masak Lemak Chilli Padi”, “Daging Rendang Tok”, “Gulai Masam Ikan Tenggiri with Terung Hijau”, “Udang Masak Tomato”, “Pucuk Ubi Masak Lemak Chilli Api”, and “Daging Masak Asam”.

Ramadan 2014: Tropicana Golf and Country Resort

WITH the theme “Santapan 29 Malam”, Tropicana Golf and Country Resort Berhad (TGCR) hopes to bring back joyful “Kampung” memories in a nostalgic ambience with an array of fusion “Kampung” cuisine during the Holy Month.
With 29 live stalls and five different sets of menu that consists of more than 100 items from Malay, Chinese, Indian, Japanese and Western cuisines, diners will be spoilt for choice.
The buffet line stretches from the Coffee House, main lounge, Golfers’ Terrace to Golfers’ Lounge.

After his recent trip to Taiwan, sous chef Tan Eng Hooi, who hails from Kedah, made his version of the Taiwanese fried rice.
The Warung Gulai Kawah serves beef and a new choice of venison (deer meat). Other new items include sup babat (cow’s stomach), popiah basah, putu piring, Nasi Pandan Kukus (steamed pandan rice) served with fried chicken and gulai ikan tongkol,
A five-peice Ghazal band will entertain diners daily with famous kampung tunes.

Ramadan 2014: Pullman Putrajaya Lakeside

Street-style bazaar by the lakeside

Relish in a melting pot of authentic ‘kampung style’ delicacies served buffet-style and live-cooking hawker stall favourites featuring more than 100 varieties of Malaysian delights at Pullman Putrajaya Lakeside this Ramadan.
The 1Malaysia Bazaar by The Lake will be held at Laguna, an outdoor dining venue offering breezy lakeside atmosphere, from June 30 to July 25 July, 7pm to 10.30pm.
There will be 14 stalls such as the pasta stall, noodle corner, rojak stall, and cucur (fritters) stall among others.
At the carving and grill station, there are whole roasted lamb or venison, satay, grilled fish.
Malaysian favourites include Rojak Pasembur, Rojak Buah, Popiah Basah, Chicken Murtabak, and Roti John.
Be spoilt for choice with desserts like assorted French pastries, assorted Bakhlava, Turkish Delights, an assortment of cakes as well as local delights like Kuih Batang Buruk , Sarang Semut , Kuih Bangkit and Bubur Pulut Hitam.
Sous chef Mohd Hanafiah Awalludin and his team have also created some Middle Eastern specialties such as Shawarma and dishes infused with olive oil, pita bread, sesame seeds and dates.
At the media preview, we were served Mee Hoon Sup Tasik Putrajaya, which was made from beef broth, at the start of the meal. I love the peanuts in the broth, which added crunch.
One of the highlights was the Kambing Goreng 1 Malaysia as it is marinated in a Chinese style, served in Malay paprik sauce, and (Indian) pakoras.
We were also served Oxtail Assam Pedas Mak No, a recipe by one of the restaurant’s chefs who also lend her name to the dish.
True to its name, the Ayam Goreng Cili Api was fiery for someone like me who has a low spicy threshold, but I enjoyed it nonetheless as the chicken was tender and well-marinated.
I also love the Ikan Tenggiri Masak Kicap Berempah (Spanish mackerel cooked in herb sauce), which had me going for seconds.
The dishes went well with tomato rice.
The bazaar also offers diners a chance to try signature dishes from 14 states in Malaysia.
According to the chef, the Udang Lemak Pegaga served at the preview is a Malaccan specialty and the Pucuk Manis Goreng Labu is from Negeri Sembilan.
For desserts, we were served Semanis Jemari Syawal, a rich chocolate cheesecake.
It is served with the three-colour kuih bingka ubi, which was not too sweet.
Pastry chef Zam Zaini used chocolate with 76% cocoa content, fresh raspberries for the raspberry puree and mangoes, not mango puree, to make the mango sorbet.
“The sorbet and puree cleanses your palate and counters the richness of the chocolate cheesecake,” he said.
Kudos to the chef for concocting this sweet and sour dessert, much thought must have gone into it.
A Ghazal Band will be at hand to entertain guests with live music daily.
