Five Years ago, LAW (Louis KOO) was jailed for killing a major land
owner in a car accident. At that time LAW worked as a chauffeur for the rural
tycoon LUK (Kenneth TSANG).
It was rumored that LUK was behind such land owner’s death,
which gave LUK a competitive edge in the native apartment development deal.
Before the Hong Kong handover in 1997, every native, male resident in the New
Territories was granted the right to build a house. Yet it had caused social
unrest over the land right, until recently the government decided to gather all
of the remaining land rights from these residents and plan to build taller
apartment buildings. LUK wished to swallow the enormous project and
this started the fights between LUK, the land owner and other real estate
developers.
When LAW gets out of prison five years later, the
world has changed. LUK’s
corporation has grown more powerful, while LUK’s right-hand man Keung (LAU Ching Wan), sworn brother of LAW, has his own agenda to pursue. But
things take a surprising turn.
With the help of LAW’s prison mate and computer whiz Joe (Daniel WU), LAW drugs Keung and his brothers in the drinks, then
modify their mobile phones for wiretapping.
Joe gets acquainted with the materialistic
single mom Eva (ZHOU Xun), who turns out to have a dark
history with both LAW
and KEUNG. Through the
eavesdropping, LAW realizes Keung’s ultimate plan, which may change Hong
Kong’s land development forever.

Latest installment of the series to show Hong Kong’s insider property trading.
Distributed by RAM Entertainment, a
film by Bona Film Group that is produced by Derek Yee and Huang Bin, directed
by Alan Mak and Felix Chong, the
original <<Overheard>> cast consisting of Louis Koo, Lau
Ching Wan and Daniel Wu together with Zhou Xun, Michelle Ye, Alex, Gordon Lam, Huang
Lei and more for this year’s blockbuster <<Overheard 3>>. Through
the film’s trailer and 4 individual posters that were
recently released, it was revealed that this installment of the film would be
tacking the issue of Hong Kong’s insider property trading.
Serving as the last installment of
the <<Overheard>>film series, <<Overheard 3>> follows
in the footsteps of the previous 2 films, yet offers it’s very own twist and
turns. The trailer promises the film to be packed with intrigue as it explores
what could happen behind the scenes of property trading. As director Felix
Chong shares: “Real estate is a common topic that resonates with a lot of
people. Many people know that a lot of shady things take place behind the
scenes of property trading, but it’s a topic that nobody is too keen to film.
Combined with social realist theme of eavesdropping, we hope that the
<<Overhead 3>> film can have an impact of society and reevaluate
the way people view real estate and property trading.
The ultimate eavesdropping
film that left Lau Ching Wan speechless.
<<Overheard 3>> promises
to be a different film compared to the previous 2, as is no longer revolve
around cops & gangsters. Director Felix Chong akin to the cops &
gangsters plot to resemble the romantic martial arts theme and
<<Overheard 3>> is aiming for a more ambitious, more realistic
feel. “This time, we want to tell the story of a property tyrant.”
The
film with focus on the many characters that are property tyrants, and their
power struggles to ensure their interests are protected. Director Felix Chong
shared that the previous 2 films focused more on the eavesdropping, but in
<<Overheard 3>>, eavesdropping is but one of the many tactics these
tyrants wield to gain an upper hand. Like the unpredictable-ness of the human
nature, the film also carries an unpredictable outcome. “I’ve never thought
that a plot about eavesdropping can become a film about property tyrants”,
expressed Lau Ching Wan. “<<Overheard 3>> is full of surprises, and
explores the human psychology, giving the film a much more 3-dimensional feel
to it.
Louis Koo Wary of The
Sensitive Subject Matter
<<Overheard 3>> revolves
around a land earmarked for development in Hong Kong for over 40 years but
undergoing no progress due to “historical legacy” issues. As this is a
sensitive topic, no one has dared tackle the topic. However, director Alan Mak
and Felix Chong are grabbing the bull by the horns, and decided to tackle the issue
head-on. “Prior to this, we’ve encountered a few key players in the property
market, as well as the constantly fluctuating nature of the market. To us, this
topic is ripe to be made into movies. Naturally, filming such a topic would
come with a degree of risk, but it’s one we think is worth taking.”
Alan Mak and Felix Chong rose up to the challenge and put
together the plot and script for <<Overheard 3>> which they shared
with Louis Koo, who was promptly surprised. “When I came across the script, I
felt that the dialogue was so controversial, it was akin to stumbling across a
land mine. The show could possibly cause uproar among society, and I dare not
imagine how they even came up with it!” Alan Mak added: “Always playing safe
doesn’t make for interesting movies, and has no benefit to society.”
<<Overhead 3>> will be released nationwide on 29th
May 2014. For more great news and updates about the film, stay tuned to MYFM or
