Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week 2014 Ready to Wear (June 18-22)

MORE than 80 Malaysian designers will be featured at the Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week Ready To Wear 2014 (KLFW) at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, from June 18 to 22.
The main focus this year is “The Runway Collection”, a selection of runway-worthy designs distinctive new lines and structures that have yet made it to the mass market.



The five-day fashion event is set to showcase collections that are available off the rack in an effort to promote the local fashion and retail industry.
In its second year, KLFW will feature designers such as Farah Khan, Khoon Hooi, Tom Abang Saufi by Iman, Carven Ong, Syaiful Baharim, Sazzy Falak, Jonathan Liang, Silas Liew, Jovian Mandagie, Alia Bastamam, PU3, Zakwan Anuar, Kavita Kaur, Syomir Izwa, Innai Red, Joe Chia, and Mizz Nina.

 
Four regional guest designers from Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines will also be featured; this marks the beginning of the organisation’s effort to introduce Malaysian Ready To Wear brands regionally by tying up with other fashion weeks and cross-promoting with Tourism Malaysia.
There will be two new shows this year: titled and; UITM8 highlighting eight top fashion design students of MARA University of Technology and SHOW3 featuring names who will be making their first appearances as new Malaysian fashion labels. These are the ones to watch as KLFW introduces and increases awareness of our homegrown young talent on the fashion front.



Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz officially launched KLFW on Monday (June 16) by beating the drum eight times and live percussionists were at hand to set the tone for the evening.
Also in attendance were Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board chairman Tan Sri Dr Ng Yen Yen, Pavilion chief executive officer Joyce Yap.

The event, which took place at the mall’s iconic fountain, featured a VIP drop-off in a car convoy by KLFW’s official car sponsor Maserati.
A total of 100 models paraded cald in the KLFW t-shirt, which were each given a different twist by participating designers.

Malaysian hip-hop artists Joe Flizzow, Altimet and SonaOne then emerged from a Maserati to perform the hit “Havoc”.
KLFW is supported by Tourism Malaysia, Visit Malaysia Year 2014, 1Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival and a host of sponsors and partners.

In his speech, KLFW founder Andrew Tan said the success of the fashion industry lies in the good working relationship between the textile industry, manufacturers, and other relavant parties.
The fashion week challenges Malaysia’s fashion designers to command presence, not just on the stage but also in the local and international markets.

The event is recognised as a B2C (Business To Consumer) platform allowing designers to connect with customers and with the support of Tourism Malaysia, KLFW hopes to garner more international appeal to attract revenue for the industry.
