Chinese chef Ric Teo said many have tea with mooncakes and he added a Western twist to it so diners can enjoy both Chinese and Western delicacies in a seating while sipping tea.

“This is available all-day and not just during the afternoon,” he said.

He added that the the la mien (hand-pulled noodles), served with chicken chop, is made fresh and is slightly sweet because of the sauce.

This afternoon tea is available from now until Sept 22 at RM78 nett per person. It is part of the Jade Rabbit Series.

According to Chinese folklore, the Jade Rabbit is a character that lives on the moon and a trusty companion to the moon goddess.

To this day, some believe that if a person looks up at the full moon and squint slightly at the markings, they can still see the Jade Rabbit with his pestle and mortar, making the elixir of life for immortals.

Drawing inspiration from these stories, Hilton Petaling Jaya’s mooncake series, aptly named Jade Rabbit Series, redefines what elixir of life means and incorporates ingredients that provides longevity to health and life in its mooncake series.

Food that contains antioxidants and promotes overall wellbeing such as pomegranate, blueberries, and raisins take center stage in both the traditional and snow skin mooncakes.

Signature snow skin flavours for 2019:  Blueberry Cheese, Pomegranate Golden Raisins,

I cannot decide which of the snow skin is my favourite as I enjoyed all three, which were not too sweet, unlike some mooncakes available in the market.

The chef said every year they would create healthy mooncakes without artificial food colouring; the natural colouring is derived from the fruits.

Of the Pomegranate Golden Raisins, he said, “Pomegranate is good for skin, helps digestion, stimulate appetite, high in nutrients.

“It is quite an expensive fruit. After juicing, I add it to lotus paste to make the filling. Raisin adds some acidity to balance the sweetness of the mooncake.”

With such health benefits, I did not feel guilty going for a second piece.
