Buddha's birthday & Jogyesa

The upcoming Buddha's birthday celebration brings back memories of my visit to Jogyesa, a Buddhist temple in Seoul.

Buddha's Birthday is part of the Wesak Day (or Vesak Day) celebration, which commemorates Buddha's enlightenment and death.
My travel buddy is a devout Buddhist so we went in search of a temple when we were in Seoul some years ago and found Jogyesa.

It was Autumn but it felt like Spring with all the flowers.

The main Buddha Hall--Daewoongjeon--was packed with devotees. This was years before the pandemic, not sure how it is now. Be sure to take off your shoes before entering.

Visitors can also apply for a temple stay.

It is located in 55, Ujeongguk-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul (서울특별시 종로구 우정국로 55).

Just follow the guide available on the website to know which exit line and which exit to take. Here’s the website (in English): http://www.jogyesa.kr/user/english/
